For trainees to develop an understanding of interpreting the 3 main financial statements

PSC and SQE Trainees

Topics:
  • The purpose and format of the 3 main financial statements:
  • The income statement,
  • The statement of financial position and
  • The cashflow statement
  • The presentation and reporting requirements of financial information i.e. the statutory accounts
  • Reviewing (at a macro level) the regulatory, business and commercial information contained within the Annual Report and Accounts of a well-known FTSE 100 company
  • Practically interpreting the financial statements by way of ratio analysis – and reviewing the profitability, funding and liquidity of the FTSE 100 company
  • Relating all learning, as applicable, to the legal sector and law firms
Outcomes:
The success measures of this course are:
  • Improving understanding of the key performance criteria for a FTSE 100 company;
  • Improving understanding of and ability to interpret the financial statements; and
  • Acquiring greater confidence when required to research financial information and/or discussing those areas with external or internal clients
